With all the fun and excitement of Christmas, Security is often overlooked as everyone scrambles with shopping and deciding gifts.
Sadly 'tis the season for scams and thefts also. We wish to remind all our customers at this time of year SMS and Email scams skyrocket, with some scammers trying to call your phone to trick personal details or funds away from you or your business.
Some easy things to remember which have been said countless times:
- Do not give personal information over the phone. If an institution insists on having your details before they will speak to you - ask for a case or reference number and INSIST on calling them back. Do not redial the number you received the call from; instead google the company's contact info and proceed from there.
- Collapse empty boxes of electronic goods to your recycle bin instead of putting them out on the street. This gives thieves an excellent clue what goods are inside your home and can make your house a target for break-ins.
- Keep your car keys inside in a safe and easy to remember place that is convenient to grab in a rush. Try not to leave them out on the bench, or on a hook just inside your door as thieves look in places such as this.
- Lock your windows and doors to help prevent break-ins. While a determined intruder will smash their way in, often becoming a more difficult threat will be enough to stop juvenile crime affecting your life.
- Test your home security camera recording and backups (or ask Santa to bring your house some video security). Should anything happen you can use these to help police find the ones responsible.
These simple tips can help to ensure your family, business, and you yourself can enjoy the festive season!
Merry Christmas from BribieIsland-IT!
